Volleyball drops MSC opener to Wise

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pikeville volleyball team opened Mid-South Conference play on Tuesday night with a 3-0 loss to U.Va.-Wise.

The setback came by scores of 25-21, 25-13 and 25-19 and kept the Bears winless through seven matches this season.

UPIKE was led offensively by sophomore Paige Thacker, who had 10 of its 21 kills in the win and all but one of its four service aces.

Junior Brooke Parrott and freshman Alexis Howard had nine assists each.

On the defensive side, senior Libero Shelbi White had 28 receptions. Freshmen Rebekah Potter and Samantha Aires followed with 13 and 10, respectively.

Pikeville will have a busy weekend on the court. On Friday evening at 6 p.m. the Bears will remain in league play when they host Shawnee State University.

Saturday morning will see the Bears host a tri-match, playing Midway College at 10 a.m. and Bluefield College at 2 p.m.

The Eagles and Rams will do battle at noon at the UPIKE Gymnasium.
