Walz challenges Hammond to keep improving

LOUISVILLE Ky. (WYMT) - All season long, Sara Hammond was one of the go to players for the Louisville Cardinals as she averaged just under 11 points and 6 boards per game.

During the NCAA tournament, Hammond was able to up her game in order to match her team's intensity, and averaged 11.1 points and 5 boards per game, including a a 21 point outing versus Purdue.

Hammond is still perfecting her game and head coach Jeff Walz want to see her continue to improve as she gets ready for her junior season.

"Well, I thought Sara came out and competed. We are still going to challenge her. She settled a few times for fade away shots", saiys Walz.

"When she's got it, she's quick enough and strong enough to drive to the basket. Try to absorb the contact, and try to get three point plays. But the progress she's made from her freshman year to her sophomore year is remarkable", stated Walz.

"I challenged her to make those same strides to her junior year. If she does that, now all of a sudden, we are getting better."
