ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Union senior center Lindsey Waters is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
This is the second time this season Waters has received this award and the eighth time for her career.
The Stearns, Ky., native helped Union to a 2-1 record last week as she record her league-leading seventh and eighth double-doubles. Waters averaged 16.0 and 11.0 rebounds per game last week as well as 3.0 blocks, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals while shooting 55.9 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. Her best game of the week came in the 81-72 win at Montreat (N.C.) as she poured in 22 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as she went 9-for-14 from the floor.
For the season, Waters is averaging 16.8 points and 9.32 rebounds per game, leading the AAC in the latter. She also paces the conference in blocked shots with 3.5 per game. Waters ranks second in NAIA Division II in total blocked shots with 77.
Union is 16-8 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Lady Bulldogs return to action Wednesday when they visit the Buffaloes of Milligan (Tenn.). Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
