Waters on Point in Leading UC to 78-57 AAC Win

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - It was just another day at the office for junior center Lindsey Waters as she recorded her 13th double-double of the season in guiding Union to a 78-57 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory over visiting Point (Ga.) on Wednesday.

The Stearns, Ky., native registered a game-high 23 points and 16 rebounds to go with five blocks, three assists and two steals. Waters hit 7-of-8 shots from the floor and went a perfect 9-for-9 at the foul line. The five blocks match her season high, equaling her total from games against Indiana Southeast and Emmanuel (Ga..).

The 21-point win is the largest margin of victory for the Lady Bulldogs since an 81-50 decision versus Tennessee Temple on Dec. 9.
Union is now 14-5 overall and 5-3 in the AAC, while Point falls to 7-10 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Early on, Union struggled to seize control of the game. It wasn't until the closing minutes that the Lady Bulldogs began to pull away. Up 18-17 with 6:55 to play, Union went on a 17-4 run to open up a 35-21 cushion, but Point scored the final four points in the period to make it 35-25 at the break.

Union started off the second half hot, using a 16-8 surge to make it a 51-33 contest by the 15:15 mark. Laura Perkins (Myra, Ky.) had nine points during the rally with Kara Pile(Fairdale, Ky.) adding five. The Lady Bulldogs went on cruise control the rest of the way, leading by as much as 24 points en route to the 78-57 victory.

Perkins and Pile each chipped in 13 points for Union. Brooke Hill (Sparta, Ky.) had a nice game off the bench with seven points and three block shots. Alyson Roberts (Baxter, Ky.) added eight points and four assists.

For Point, Raven Bell netted 16 with Chauntel Herrod knocking in 15.
Union shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57 shots) from the field but really struggled from long range, hitting only 3-of-29 (10.3 percent) behind the arc. However, the Lady Bulldogs hit 31-of-38 free throws (81.6 percent). Conversely, Point hit 32.1 percent (18-of-56) from the floor, 1-for-3 from 3-point range and 71.4 percent (20-of-28) from the foul line.

Point narrowly outrebounded Union 42-41, but the Skyhawks leading rebounder only had six.

The Lady Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they host Bryan (Tenn.) at 4 p.m.
