With a Bullet: Bears knock off Georgetown

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Junior guard Elisha Justice came off the bench for 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the arc to lead second-seeded Pikeville to a 91-76 win over No. 3 Georgetown Saturday night in the semifinals of the Mid-South Conference tournament.

The win puts the Bears, 26-5, in the Sunday afternoon championship game against top-seeded Lindsey Wilson at 5:30 in the Frankfort Convention Center. It will be a rematch of the 2005 title tilt, which was the last time either team reached the finals.

Pikeville put six players in double figures as it avenged two regular-season losses to the Tigers, and did so on a night it hit 20-of-20 from the free-throw line.

Georgetown (23-8) was forced into 16 turnovers and lost despite hitting 46.9 percent from the field.

The Tigers took a 19-11 lead with 12:06 to play when junior Monty Wilson scored. It would prove to be the largest lead of the night for the Tigers. Wilson led all scorers with 27.

UPike Coach Kelly Wells then went to a larger lineup, employing both posts Terrance Saintil and Greg Magee, which was a difference the rest of the game.

He also sent Justice, the former Mr. Basketball, into the lineup.

Pikeville then went on a 9-2 run, with Justice scoring five of them. His floater in the paint with 9:57 left cut the Tiger lead to 21-20.

A basket by senior guard Trevor Setty with 8:25 to play pushed the Bears in front 25-23. When Saintil scored with 7:43 to play, the lead had ballooned to 30-23, ending a 19-4 stretch for UPike.

The Bears never trailed again. The lead was 43-39 at the half and grew to 18 at 89-71 when Setty nailed two free throws with 1:14 to play.

Briscoe led the Bears with 20, hitting 9-of-9 from the line. Setty followed with 19, missing his sixth straight double-double by one rebound. Justice followed, with Johnson scoring 13, Magee 11 and Saintil 10.

Vic Moses joined Wilson in double figures, tossing in 21 to go with eight rebounds.
