LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- For the second straight week, University of the Cumberlands' Lauren Wombles is the Mid-South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Mid-South officials announced the award on Monday.
The weekly conference award is Wombles' second of the season and the fifth of her career.
Wombles scored 22 points in each of the Patriots' two wins last week. She averaged 9.5 rebounds and two assists per game last week to go along with her 22 points per outing.
The London, Ky., senior forward opened the week recording her second double-double of the season with 22 points and 11 rebounds in Cumberlands' 74-47 win over University of Pikeville on Thursday.
On Saturday, Wombles pulled down eight rebounds and had four steals to go along with her 22 points in an 80-66 win over UVa.-Wise.
Wombles shot 42.1 percent (16-of-38) from the field, including three for eight (37.5 percent) from beyond the three-point arc. She connected on nine of her 12 free throws.
With her 44 points last week, Wombles moved into second place on the Patriots' all-time scoring list. She has 1,627 career points and is 388 points behind Soni Smith's 2,015.
This season, Wombles is second in the MSC in scoring averaging 18.2 points per game. She is third in steals per game (2.7), fourth in rebounds per game (7.8) and fifth in field goal percentage (47.5) in the conference rankings.
Cumberlands is 8-1 overall and 3-0 in the MSC this season.
The next women's basketball player of the week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Dec. 12.
