HARROGATE, TN -- The Lady Railsplitters were selected third in the 2012 South Atlantic Conference women's tennis preseason poll on Tuesday morning. The conference's head coaches votes are compiled to build this poll.
LMU finished with 77 points which fell just shy of Anderson University's 84 points which garnered second place. Defending champs, Wingate University, received 96 points on seven first place votes which landed the Bulldogs at the top of the poll.
Lady Railsplitters Leah Donoff and Sofia Lopez Mimendi each earned preseason All-SAC First Team honors. Alexandra Granger was also selected for the preseason All-SAC Second Team. Donoff finished 15-7 a season ago. She was exceptionally strong in the SAC as she finished 8-1 in conference. Mimendi capped the 2011 season with an 18-1 record with a perfect 8-0 finish in conference. She finished the season on a dominant 17-match winning streak. Granger had a strong 2011 campaign as she compiled a 12-9 record.
With these three players, the Lady Railsplitters will be returning their complete top five from last season. They will also be welcoming sophomore transfer, Logan Hubbs, to the program as she is expected to make a major impact this season. LMU opens their season with high expectations and tremendous potential on February 15th as they host University of the Cumberlands. The opening serve is set for 2 p.m.
