UVa-Wise softball season preview

Posted: 02/11/2014 - Following a 31-21 season that ended in a 15-inning game versus Georgetown College in the Mid-South Conference tournament, the Cavaliers are excited to get back on the diamond. UVa-Wise returns 14 players, including six seniors. Rachel Hawks returns as a senior after leading the Cavaliers in the circle in 2013 with a 20-11 record with a 2.25 ERA in 205.2 innings thrown. Kellie Waycaster (So.) and Lannie Johnston (Sr.) also return to the pitching rotation after combining for 10 wins last season. Taylor Brandts, Hailey Glover, and Sarah Beamer joined pitching staff for the 2014 season and should all earn innings.

UVa-Wise baseball season preview

Posted: 02/10/2014 - UVa-Wise will enter its first season in NCAA Division II’s newest conference, the Mountain East Conference in 2014. The Cavaliers are coming off a disappointing 2013 campaign that saw the team post a 10-27 record. Despite the record, UVa-Wise will have to replace one of the top catchers in program history. A year ago, Tommy Meier was named an all-conference selection as he hit .373 with 50 hits, 11 of which were extra-base hits. Meier finished his career with 198 hits and a .363 average; the 198 hits are the most by any catcher in school history.
