RICHMOND, Ky. – Eastern Kentucky University’s baseball team sent 11 players to teams across the nation to participate in summer leagues.
Four Colonels joined the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League with three joining the Hamilton Joes. Sophomores Eric Nerl, Doug Teegarden and Luke Wurzelbacher all traveled to Hamilton, Ohio to compete with the Joes in the 10-team league.
Teegarden is hitting .235 for the Joes and leads the team with 19 runs. Teegarden has logged 16 hits, one homer and 12 RBIs thus far, along with six stolen bases.
Eastern Kentucky sophomore Kyle Nowlin joined the Cincinnati Steam which also competes in the Great Lakes summer league.
Seniors Brent Cobb and Sean Hagen are playing with the Aldie Senators for the 44-game season within the Valley Baseball League. Cobb (2-1) has two starts and logged 18 innings on the mound with an impressive 2.00 ERA.
Senior Bryan Soloman is hitting .254 for the North Adams Steeple Cats while competing in the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
Senior Matt Lynch is 2-0 with the San Luis Obispo Blues in the California Collegiate League. Lynch has struck out 34 batters in his 26 2/3 innings of work and has not allowed a home run.
Cody Creamer, a junior for the Colonels, is playing for the Martinsville Mustangs in the Coastal Plain League. Creamer has one save in 11 1/3 innings on the mound, while striking out 14 batters.
Sophomore infielder Kenny Hostrander is batting .289 for the Syracuse Junior Chiefs of the New York Collegiate Baseball League. Hostrander has 24 hits, four doubles, one home run and 12 RBIs for the Chiefs.
Pitcher Chris Cervantes (0-1) has 13 1/3 innings on the mound for the Duluth Huskies this summer. Cervantes has earned two saves and has struck out 13 batters in the Northwoods League.
