PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Over the last few seasons, the UPike football team has gotten off to quick starts only to struggle down the stretch.
In 2011, the Bears lost their final five games and last season they ended the season on a seven game skid. But entering the off-season, "finishing" is a goal of the program and they're hoping the change in mindset will result in more wins on the field.
"That was out mentality going into this off-season was to push our guys in the fourth quarter, and to be able to finish; finish workouts, finish drills," says offensive coordinator, Al Holland, Jr. "Don't let guys quit, so we don't blow that will off at the end of a ball game or towards the end of the season and don't get over that hump. We're trying to teach these guys and instill it in their bodies that we're going to finish everything we do, whether it's in the classroom, on the field, practice, games, and hopefully that pays off for us to win ball games."
