Louisville, Ky. -- UVa.-Wise junior Deon Boyce is the Mid-South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.
The conference weekly award is Boyce's first of the season and of his career.
Boyce averaged a double-double while helping the Cavaliers to a pair of conference wins last week.
The Jacksonville, N.C., forward scored 22 points and grabbed 24 rebounds -- his second straight 24-rebound performance -- in the Cavs' 81-80 double overtime win over Cumberland on Thursday. Boyce made 9-of-19 shots from the field while playing 47 of the 50 minutes.
Boyce's two 24-rebound games are the most rebounds in a single game in the Mid-South and second highest in the NAIA this season.
On Saturday, Boyce scored four points while securing a game-high 23 rebounds as UVa.-Wise's 69-54 upset of No. 1-ranked Cumberlands. The win runs Wise's winning streak to a season-high five games.
Boyce concluded the week averaging 13 points, 23.5 rebounds and three assists per contest.
Since Boyce's addition during the Christmas break, the Cavs are 3-0 -- all conference wins.
In his three games this season, Boyce is averaging 13.3 points and 23.7 rebounds per outing. He is shooting 44.7 percent from the field.
With its wins, UVa.-Wise improves to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-South Conference.
