WISE, Va. – The Cavalier softball team dropped a double header to the Tornadoes of King College 8-3 and 11-9 in eight innings. UVa-Wise (14-13), could not overcome six home runs hit by King (17-21).
In the first game Hannah Light pitched a complete game for the Tornadoes giving up only three runs, two of which were earned through seven innings. The Cavaliers used three pitchers giving up eight runs on 13 hits. Rachel Hawks (8-6) was the losing pitcher as she had four innings of work. Rachel Fisher for the Cavaliers went 1-2 in the game batting in three RBIs and hitting a two-run homerun in the bottom of the sixth. Christina Ziemba and Megan Dillion are the only two players for the Cavaliers with multiple hits, each going 2-4.
For the Tornadoes, Christina Melcher, Hanna Smith, and Tori McComas all went yard in the first game. Smith led all batters going 3-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
In the second game of the two game set Charity Lawson, Ziemba, and Fisher all had two hits for the Cavaliers. Lawson drove in four runs and hit a homerun. Lawson was joined by Kirsten Velazquez, Carrie Williams, and Kristina Romualdo who all also homered. Still it was not enough as the Tornadoes in the top of the eighth were able two score two runs and sweep the Cavaliers in the two game set. Hawks (8-7) was pegged with her second loss of the day and Light(12-10) would pick up her second win.
