HARROGATE, TN - Lincoln Memorial University senior outfielder Cody Baker (Knoxville, TN) has been named to the 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Southeast Region Gold Glove Team, garnering first team distinctions, region officials unveiled on Friday afternoon.
The players selected for the 2013 ABCA/Rawlings Southeast Region Gold Glove Team are honored as the top defensive players in the Southeast Region. First team selections are eligible for the national ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team, which will be selected on Sunday, May 26th in conjunction with the NCAA Division II National Championship.
Cody Baker, a 5'11" outfielder, was named to the Southeast Region Gold Glove Team after posting a .994 fielding percentage in 52 games in center field for the Railsplitters this season. Baker finished third on the team with 153 put outs. Baker also added five outfield assists, with his only error of the 2013 campaign coming in the season finale, a loss to the Georgia College Bobcats in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
Baker was a South Atlantic Conference Gold Glove Team honoree in 2012 and 2013, as Baker capped the 2012 season with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, recording 116 put outs without an error to his credit.
All told, Baker completed his four-year career with the Railsplitters with a .991 fielding percentage. In 190 games played, most of which came in center field, Baker only committed four total errors. He never posted a lower fielding percentage than .952 for an entire season.
He finished his career with 410 put outs and 11 outfield assists.
In addition to boasting one of the highest fielding percentages in the history of LMU baseball, Baker ranks among the best hitters in program history as well. He compiled a career .331 batting average with 30 doubles, seven triples and three home runs. He leaves LMU as the all-time leader in hits (230), runs scored (164) and walks (100) while ranking in the top five in six other significant categories.
