Finch teaches more than softball

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Softball players of all ages were treated to some high quality instruction Saturday afternoon. For the second consecutive year, Olympic gold medalist Jennie Finch held her softball camp in Pikeville.

Players were taught different techniques and fundamentals from a number of volunteers, but Finch says these camps are a good opportunity to also teach valuable life lessons.

"One of the best things about these camps is to share the life experiences and the life lessons, and that's the most important part of softball in general is the teamwork, the discipline, the leadership, the sacrifice, the comradery; all those great things," says Finch, who won a gold medal with the United States in the 2004 Olympic Games. "We do, we cover all the fundamentals, but most importantly, just hopefully encourage them and share our life lessons that we've learned through this game. A lot of times, they only see the medals and all the limelight, but really there is a lot of blood, sweat, and tears that go into it, and we definitely share that with them."
