LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Former Rockcastle County Lady Rocket and Kentucky Miss Basketball Sara Hammond is enjoying a successful sophomore season.
Hammond is currently averaging 11 points and six and a half rebounds for No. 15 Louisville, and as Lady Cardinal head coach Jeff Walz says, the turning point for Hammond came when she started playing for herself and stopped playing for everyone around her.
"She's the kind of kid that wants to do everything right; she wants to be perfect, and at this level, it's impossible," says Walz. "I think she was trying to play for everybody else instead of just realizing, 'Hey, I need to take care of myself first.' You know, she wants to play for her town, she wants to play for everybody, and finally I think we've got her to understand, hey, just go out there and be Sara Hammond, and do what you can do. We all know you're a great player, and then everybody be excited for you."
