KIAC preseason coaches' poll for spring 2013 sports

Berea, KY. (January 27th, 2013). The preseason coaches’ polls for all Spring KIAC sports have been released. Teams picked by the coaches to win their respective sport are as follows: Point Park University (Baseball), Indiana University Southeast (Softball), Asbury University (Men’s Tennis), Brescia University (Men’s Golf), Berea College (Men’s Track and Field) and Berea College (Women’s Track and Field).

Baseball

The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason baseball poll was released Sunday, January 27th by KIAC officials. KIAC coaches selected newcomer Point Park University as the top team. The Pioneers received five first-place votes and 35 total points. They were selected 6th nationally in the 2013 NAIA Baseball Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. Last season, Point Park finished 53-11 overall and advanced to the Avista-NAIA World Series.

Indiana University Southeast was selected second by the coaches with one first-place vote and 31 total points. They finished as the KIAC tournament runner-up last season. Asbury was selected third in the conference with 21 total points after advancing to the NAIA National Tournament last year. Brescia University sits in the fourth spot in the preseason poll with 19 total points. Berea College is fifth with 12 points, followed by Alice Lloyd College with 8 points.

Conference play will begin in March. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament in late April.

Softball

The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason softball poll was released Sunday, January 27th by KIAC officials. The defending regular season champion and conference tournament champion Indiana University Southeast Grenadiers were selected as the top team. IU Southeast received four first-place votes and 59 total points. Last season, IU Southeast finished the regular season with an 18-2 conference record and finished 15th in the final NAIA National Coaches’ Poll. They start the 2013 season ranked 20th in the preseason NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

Positions two through four are separated by just two points with three different teams receiving at least one first-place vote. Point Park University sits in the second position with one first-place vote and 45 total points. Carlow University is third in the poll with two first-place votes and 44 total points. Brescia is fourth with one first-place vote and 43 total points. Asbury University is fifth with 37 points, followed by Berea College (28 points), Midway College (23 points) and Alice Lloyd College (9 points).

Conference play will begin on March 3rd. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament in May.

Men’s Tennis

The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason men’s tennis poll was released Sunday, January 27th by KIAC officials. The defending conference tournament and regular season champion Asbury University Eagles were selected as the top team. The team also advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. Asbury received six first-place votes and 48 total points.

Brescia University and Indiana University Southeast tied for the second spot in the polls with 39 points each. IU East is fourth in the poll with 27 points, St. Louis College of Pharmacy (22 points), Berea College (14 points) and Alice Lloyd College (7 points).

Conference play will begin on March 17th. The season will conclude with the KIAC Tournament April 26-27.

Men’s Golf

The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference preseason men’s golf poll was released Sunday, January 27th by KIAC officials. Defending conference champion Brescia University was selected as the top team. The Bearcats won the 54-hole KIAC Championship last season. The Bearcats received three first-place votes and 44 total points in the poll.

Asbury University was selected in the second spot with one first-place vote and 40 total points. Point Park University is third with two first-place votes and 39 total points. Indiana University East is fourth with one first-place vote and 30 points. Cincinnati Christian is fifth with 20 points, followed by Berea College (14 points) and Alice Lloyd College (8 points).

The KIAC Championship is scheduled for April 29-30 at Gibson Bay in Richmond, KY.

Men’s Track and Field

The 2013 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s preseason track and field poll was released Sunday, January 27th by KIAC officials. Berea College has been tabbed as the top men’s team for the upcoming spring season by conference coaches. They received all four first-place votes and 16 total points. The Mountaineers won the KIAC Championship last season.

Berea is followed by St. Louis College of Pharmacy in second place with 11 points. IU East is third with 9 points, followed by Brescia with 4 points.

The men’s track and field championship is scheduled for April 27th and will be hosted by Berea College.

Women’s Track and Field

Berea College has been tabbed as the top women’s team for the upcoming spring season by conference coaches. They received all five first-place votes and 25 total points. The Mountaineers won the KIAC Championship last season.

IU East is second with 18 total points. St. Louis College of Pharmacy is third with 15 points, followed by Brescia University (11 points) and Midway College (6 points).

The women’s track and field championship is scheduled for April 27th and will be hosted by Berea College.
