LMU baseball releases dates for Winter Camp slate

HARROGATE, TN - The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team has released the dates for the winter camp offerings, head coach Jeff Sziksai announced on Tuesday. The Railsplitters will host a Youth "Spring Training" Baseball Camp January 3-4 as well as the two-part High School Prospect Camp January 4-5.

The first of a the Railsplitters' winter camp slate is the Youth "Spring Training" Baseball Camp, which is set to be held at Lincoln Memorial University's Tex Turner Arena and Mary Mars Gymnasium on January 3rd (6:30-8:30 pm) and 4th (9-11 am). Children ranging from ages five to 12 are welcomed to attend the "Spring Training" Camp, which is designed to prepare area youths for the upcoming season with two days of focus on the fundamentals of hitting, pitching and defensive positional play.

The camp costs $50 to attend, and participants will receive a camp t-shirt as well as quality instruction from the LMU coaching staff and players. Those attending the camp should bring a glove, bat, hat and batting gloves, however, those items are not required. The camp staff will provide participants with all of the necessary equipment, as campers are asked to come as they are for the Youth "Spring Training" Camp.

In addition to that camp, the Railsplitters are slated to host the two-part High School Prospect Camp on Saturday, January 4th and Sunday, January 5th. The High School Prospect Camp is broken into two parts, a Hitting Camp and a Pitcher/Catcher/Infield Camp.

The LMU Prospect Hitting Camp is an intense two-day session that focuses on the fundamentals of hitting as well as the mental approach in the batter's box. Participants will be run through the gamut of hitting skill work, including station work, live batting practice, video breakdown and personalized instruction from the LMU staff. The Hitting Camp runs from 12-4 pm on January 4th and from 8 am to noon on January 5th.

On the same days, the Pitcher/Catcher/Infield Camp is set to run. The P/C/INF Camp is designed to teach the fundamental concepts of pitching, catching or infield play. The pitching portion includes station work to teach proper mechanics, video breakdown and analysis and a conditioning/strength lecture. Those participating in the catching portion of the camp will focus on the fundamental techniques of blocking, receiving, throwing, footwork, calling pitches and handling pitchers. Like the pitching portion, the catchers' camp also includes video evaluation and breakdown, and a strength and conditioning lecture. The infield camp will focus on fielding technique, body position, footwork, double play feeds, relays and positioning. Players attending the P/C/INF Camp must choose one position. The camp runs from 12-4 pm on Saturday and from 1-5 pm on Sunday.

Each of the High School Prospect Camps are set to be held at LMU's Tex Turner Arena, Mary Mars Gymnasium and Lamar Hennon Field (weather permitting). One of the two camps can be attended for $89 or both camps can be bundled for only $150. The Railsplitters are also offering a team discount. If five or more members from the same high school attend, every member of that team will receive a 15% discount.

For those traveling from outside the area, LMU has arranged a low rate of $59 for the nights of January 3rd and 4th with the Middlesboro, Kentucky Days Inn and Suites, which is located less than five miles from the Harrogate campus.
