Mays eyeing career in Europe

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WYMT) - There may not have been a ton of positives to come from last season's UK basketball team, failing to make the NCAA tournament and losing to Robert Morris in the NIT, but it did create some opportunities for one player in particular.

Julius Mays, who transferred to Kentucky prior to last season may not play in the NBA next season but he does have a future playing professionally in Europe.

"I got a lot of great opportunities ahead of me right now and I'm in a very blessed situation to be able to pick and choose on where I want to go," says Mays, who averaged 9.3 points in 33 minutes per game last season. "Obviously, I would love to be in the NBA, but not everybody gets that opportunity. Right now, my agent is just in a lot of talks with a lot of European teams, just getting in contract negotiations and trying to get everything situated for me and my family going over there. As far as the (Brooklyn) Nets workout, it went really well. I shocked a lot of people. I got a lot of great feedback. Since I was used more as a shooter here and ran off a lot of screens, they didn't even know I could play point guard so them seeing me play that was a shock. A lot of teams told me they were going to give me a big look for next year's Summer League depending on how my season goes overseas."
