Patriot guard named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - The University of the Cumberlands (UC) Men’s basketball program completed their 2012-13 season earlier than expected this month, falling short of their National Championship dreams. While the Patriots didn’t come away with the team title, there were multiple individuals recognized for their hard work this season.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) officially announced the 2012-13 Division I All-Americans on Wednesday, awarding Patriot standout guard Antonio Bumpus (Columbus, OH) Honorable Mention status. The selections are made by the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Association All-American Committee and comprise of a First, Second, Third and Honorable Mention Team.

Bumpus, a senior sharp-shooter, had a tremendous season for the Patriots, leading the team in scoring with 20.0 points per game while shooting a strong 46% from the field. Draining nearly 33% of his shots from behind the three-point arc, Bumpus’ outside threat combined with his ability to slash to the basket at will was also recognized by the Mid-South Conference earlier this month, being named a first team All-Conference selection. A brilliant offensive player, Antonio also got the job done on the defensive side of the court, averaging 5.7 rebounds per game along with tallying 27 steals and 15 blocks on the year. His hard work, talent, and leadership led the Patriots to a solid 19-12 overall record.
