Williamsburg, Ky. (WYMT) -- The University of the Cumberlands (UC) men’s wrestling program is nearing the start of their 2013-2014 season. With their opening contest just under a month away, head coach Matt Lowers has announced his Captains for the 2013-2014 University of the Cumberlands wrestling team.
Coach Lowers commented, “I am excited to announce our 2013-2014 captains. I feel like we have a tremendous group of young men who will benefit greatly from the leadership of our five captains. Having quality leadership is a key component of any successful team or organization. I want our captains to take ownership and feel responsible for the growth of their team. Only if we are growing and reaching together will we reach our goals. Our captains will lead by example on the mat, in the classroom and in their social lives.”
The Patriots will be led by five different captains this season. Returning as a captain for his senior year will be Calob Perkins (Miamisburg, OH). Calob also served as a captain during his junior campaign. Joining him will be senior Sam Johnson (River Falls, WI), juniors Grant and Landon Burkhalter (Citrus Heights, CA) and redshirt freshman Daniel “Buddy” Toth (Saint Charles, IL).
“When choosing captains we are also choosing mentor leaders. We expect the leaders in our program to help shape the lives of all of those whom they come in contact. Leadership is about changing lives and that is why all five of our 2013-2014 captains were chosen. I have seen different traits in all of them that have shown me that they leave a positive impression in the lives of those they are in contact with. Each of them has their own leadership style and together I am confident our team will rally around them to achieve greatness.”
The Patriots will open their season at home on Saturday, November 2nd when they host the Patriot Open in the O. Wayne Rollins Center at 9:00 a.m.
