Roundball Preview: Magoffin County Hornets

SALYERSVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The Magoffin County Hornets finished 11-15 in Robbie Russell's first season as head coach and are looking for a much better season in 2013.

Although they return four starters from last season the Hornets will still be young, and they will rely heavily on senior center Cory Pitts to lead them to their first 15th Region tournament since 2007.

"My big kid, Cory Pitts. He's started, this makes his fourth year. We're going to rely heavily on him and everybody knows that," says Russell. "I got a good freshman, Trenton Russell coming back. He averaged 12 points per game as an eighth grader. Varsity, we're looking for big things out of him. We've just got to have some young kids step up because we're still going to be starting two freshmen and a sophomore this year."

"With the returning four starters from last year, it's any player's dream to play in the regional tournament so hopefully we can come out in the district and make it in the one or two seed and make it on to the regional and get a chance to win," adds Pitts, who averaged a double-double last season, recording 14.9 points and 12 rebounds per game.
