EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (WYMT) -- The Morehead State soccer team picked up its first shutout victory since Oct. 28, 2011 in a 1-0 victory over SIU Edwardsville Sunday at Ralph Korte Stadium.
MSU (3-8-1, 2-1) got the winner in the 63rd minute, when junior forward Macy Cobb received a through ball from junior forward Jade Flory and was able to slide it into the net after an initial save from the SIUE (7-3-3, 1-2-1) keeper.
"We played our most complete game of the season," Head Coach Warren Lipka said. "We defended very well as a group."
Each team took three first half shots. All three Cougar shots were on goal, while one MSU shot required a save.
Following the goal, the MSU defense allowed only one shot during the final 28:27 of play.
The Eagles finished the match with a 6-5 shots advantage. SIUE forced two saves by sophomore keeper Elizabeth Floyd, while MSU forced two saves.
After four straight road contests, the Eagles host UT Martin Friday at Jayne Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. ET.
