BARBOURVILLE, Ky. - Three members of the Union baseball team made the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District College Division Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, as a representative of District 4.
Sophomores Zach Dillman (Cincinnati, Ohio), Justin King (Barbourville, Ky.) and Vance Sullivan (Verona, Ky.) each received the honor. This is the first time either has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District Team.
A business major, Dillman spent much of the season serving as the Bulldogs' designated hitter. He finished the season tied for the team's top batting average at .341 with 47 hits in 138 at bats. Dillman lined two doubles and two triples to go with 30 RBIs.
An education major, King appeared 25 games with 23 relief appearances and two starts. He posted a 3-4 record with a 5.51 ERA and had 32 strikeouts and 15 walks in 50 2/3 innings of work.
Also an education major, Sullivan was used as a pitcher, an outfielder and pinch-hitter. On the mound, he went 5-0 with a 6.27 ERA in 16 appearances with four starts. He struck out 19 batters in 33 innings. He batted .200 with seven hits in 35 at bats, collecting one double and six RBIs.
Dillman, King and Sullivan are nine players named to the Capital One Academic All-District 4 College Division Team. District 4 is made up of NAIA and two-year schools from Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee.
The Bulldog trio will now move on the national ballot, which will be voted on my a select panel of CoSIDA members by May. 14.
Union finished the season 30-23 overall and 14-10 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.
