PIKEVILLE Ky. (WYMT) - The UPike Bears are on the practice field as spring practice began this week.
The first two years under head coach Dudley Hilton have been a learning experience, but they are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. The Bears have struggled through injuries the last two seasons, and a lack of experience and depth have hurt them.
"The last few years, we lost our best two or three running backs. We lost two or three of our best defensive backs. We lost two or three of our best receivers and when you don't have anyone to replace them, you are hurting" said Hilton.
"And that is what has happened to us the last few years, so hopefully now we have some depth. And playing older kids that are more prepared for this college football game", stated Hilton.
