HARROGATE, TN -- Guard Wally Jones has been named the Railsplitter of the Week for the week ending on December 16th, the Lincoln Memorial University athletic department announced Monday morning.
Jones, a senior hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, earned this honor after leading the 20th-ranked Railsplitters to a wire-to-wire victory over previously unbeaten King College on Sunday afternoon with 21 points in 34 minutes of action. Wally continued his hot shooting from beyond the three-point line, as the 6'2" marksman went 6-9 from three in the contest. He also boasted five rebounds, a block and a steal in the 75-68 victory over the Tornado.
Jones currently ranks second on the team at 14.1 points per contest, while shooting at a 52.1% clip from the field and a 50% mark from three. He leads the team in made three-pointers with 23 and leads all guards with 4.1 boards per game. Wally ranks fourth in the South Atlantic Conference in three-point field goal percentage among players appearing in 60% of team games and averaging one three per game.
Wally has tallied double-digit scoring in all eight of the Railsplitters' games this season.
Lincoln Memorial moved to 7-1 on the season with the victory over King on Sunday. They are now primed for a battle with regional and national implications this week, as they are slated to travel to Augusta, Georgia to duke it out with the Jaguars of Augusta State University on Wednesday, December 19th. Augusta State is the only remaining unbeaten in the Southeast Region and ranked 15th in the most recent NABC/Division II national poll. That game is set to tip at 7:30 p.m. in Christenberry Fieldhouse.
