Hello Eastern Kentucky! I am thrilled to be given the chance to serve you!
I grew up in Louisville (don’t hold that against me please!), and graduated in 2008 from Louisville Male High School. I went on to Western Kentucky University to study broadcast journalism, and I graduated in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Communications and a minor in Religious Studies. At WKU we had two newscasts a week, in addition to a weekly sports show, “The Extra Point.” The sports show is where my love for covering high schools sports was born. There are not many words to describe the greatness of a high school rivalry, underneath the lights on a Friday night.
Even as a kid, I had a passion for sports. I honestly was never really given a choice; I grew up surrounded by sports fans! My parents always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. They knew they had a sports nut on their hands when a 12 year-old Lauren could carry on a conversation with a grown man about NASCAR (haha). As I got older, I started to notice more women in the sports world, and realized I could make a career out of it.
I started here at WYMT in January 2013 initially as a weekend producer/reporter. However, when the sports job opened up, I realized this was my chance to get to do what I always wanted to do. Derek Forrest played a HUGE role in helping me get to this point. He took me under his wing, even though he was on his way out, he still put his time and energy into me, and I can never thank him enough. I am extremely excited to begin working with Josh McKinney and Jamie McCracken. I think we make a great team, and we will all work relentlessly to bring you the best in sports news possible.
When I’m not on the job, I enjoy reading a great book, being outside, and hanging out with my beta fish, Brian Williams.
I can’t even put into words how excited I am to serve this area because we are Your Mountain Television.
