I am excited to be a part of the Sky Alert Weather Team and to be back in Eastern Kentucky. I was born in Corbin, Kentucky and grew up there and in London. At 4 years old I was bit by the weather bug, watching local meteorologists and The Weather Channel. I knew when I grew up, I would be a meteorologist. That desire to study the weather grew even more after the legendary Blizzard of 1993.
I graduated South Laurel High School in 2004, and then moved on to Western Kentucky University where I graduated in 2008 with honors after studying meteorology and broadcast journalism.
This isn’t my first time being a part of the Mountain Family. I interned with WYMT back in the summer of 2007, working closely with Jim Caldwell learning the nuances of eastern Kentucky weather. After graduating from WKU I headed off to West Virginia where I worked for WOAY-TV in Oak Hill for 4 years.
I am very excited to be back in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, and especially enjoy being able to spend more time with my family and friends. When I’m not in the Sky Alert Weather Center tracking the dynamic weather patterns across the Ohio Valley, you can find me behind a computer or X-box controller playing video games or in the kitchen cooking. Feel free to email me your questions about the weather, or stop by my Facebook page or on Twitter @ShaneWYMT .
