A new nursing college is coming to eastern Kentucky.

National College in Pikeville announced a new nursing associate’s degree program starting in the next school year.

The organizers say they're starting the school because the region needs more nurses, and it gives another good-paying career opportunity for people in the area.

The program will graduate 40 new nurses a year.

Classes start in September.

Anyone interested in enrolling can call 606-478-7200.

There is enough need for nursing students in Eastern Kentucky to support all schools. If anything, the area needs more educational opportunities for our deserving people.

I don't see why someone seems to think it won't last long. National College graduates are helped with career placement which gives an advantage over the other two schools in the area. The admission reps there are awesome and follow up with their students, unlike enrolling at a larger college, where you can turn into just a number! Also, ANY student that completes a nursing program has to PASS state boards in order to become a nurse. Therefore there is NO indication this program is not going to be a startling success! Go National College!!

I highly doubt it will effect Pikeville College or Big Sandy's nursing programs. Even if you make it through the program, you still have to pass state boards. This probably won't last very long.
