October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and doctors say it's a time to remember and honor survivors and those lost to the disease.

Pink ribbons cover the lobby of the Highlands Cancer Center. Doctors say the ribbons should be a reminder for women to get screened.

ARNP Stephanie Roberts says, "If you are of the age of 40 or above, you need to get your mammograms, your screening, and to make people aware to do self breast exams."

Starting Thursday October 9th, we'll begin a special breast cancer series looking at issues about the disease every thursday throughout the rest of the month.
