An Eastern Kentucky corrections officer is facing charges after he's accused of sexually abusing a female inmate.

Police say it happened at the Otter Creek Correctional Facility in Wheelwright.

Police arrested Corrections Officer George Hale late Wednesday afternoon and that's just one of two sexual misconduct investigations at the prison. Troopers say they heard more sex abuse complaints Tuesday.

Wednesday's arrest comes after a six month investigation.

Police say back in April, Hale was accused of having an inappropriate sexual relationship with a female inmate. Police say the investigation is complete and Hale was arrested. He is charged with sexual abuse second degree and promoting contraband inside the Otter Creek Prison.

"George Hale was accused of being involved with one of the inmates with a sexual allegation, based on our investigation, based on our information we received from the crime lab, George Hale was arrested today," said Scott Hopkins with Kentucky State Police.

Hale is being held in the Floyd County Detention Center.

Police say the new sexual abuse investigation involves a different officer and a different inmate.

Otter Creek wardens say they can't comment on the arrest or the other allegations until state police finish their new investigation.

So, the sex was consensual? It is well known by people in the community that these women will do anything to get transferred to a prison where they can smoke. Maybe the prison should have given their workers more training in case a situation like this happened.

Oh please, HE CHOSE to have sexual relations with this inmate. Yes, I feel for his family, but not him. He wasn't forced to do anything appropriate, nor was the inmate.

I've heard that a lot of the problems up there have revolved around cigaretts. Didn't they even have a riot over them? It is no wonder something like this happened. Addicts will do anything to feed their habit. I feel for this poor man and his family.

I used to be in Prison, for three Years. The Woman in our prison constantly tried to get the male guards to sleep with us. We thought that if we get them to we could get them into trouble. It looks like George just feel into the conspiracy trap. haha..We had nothing else to do in prison..Us woman wanted to have a mans touch.

It IS a shame that this kind of crap happens in our prisons, but you have to look at it this way...the inmates at ANY prison, including Otter Creek are not in prison for being "good". They're sent there for MURDER, DRUG USAGE, RAPE...yes,.. there are female rapists who prey on children who may or may not be their own, Drug addicts who will do ANYTHING, such as kill or sell off their own children to men for a fix, seducing an officer is just another way to get the fix. I do agree that the screening practice should be improved, as with any type of facility, whether it a prison or a school, etc. It's easy for reporters to play an inmate as the poor little victim, but I would bet my last nickel that these entire episodes were well thought out and well in advance. Preditors come in all shapes and sizes and just because they may be women doesn't make them any less capable or any less conniving. If they will murder their own babies, they're not going to care to falsely accuse a MAN of rape.

with a family. Only charged, not convicted.

I am glad he got in trouble. There are probably plenty more cases like this that go unreported. And people wonder why a person keeps going back to jail after being released... It is because inmates don't get help or treatment while they are in jail. This man could have made a positive difference in someone’s life, but instead, he abused his authority. We need more evaluations of employees who work with special populations (handicap, children, & inmates) because they think they can get away with stuff like this.
