An Eastern Kentucky highway was shut down for more than two hours early Monday morning due to a fatal car accident.
Officials with the Prestonsburg Police Department say around 7 o'clock in the morning two vehicles collided on US 23 near the Highway 80 Intersection.
They say 19-year-old Timothy Rowland of Flat Gap was driving north on US 23 when he crossed the center line and hit another car driven by 19-year-old James Kenton of Salyersville.
"A third vehicle was hit by some debris from the accident," says Prestonsburg Police Chief Mike Ormerod. "3 people were transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center."
Officials say both Rowland and Kenton were then taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Rowland later died.
The driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
The accident is being investigated by the Prestonsburg Police Department and they are asking any witnesses to contact them at 606 - 886 - 1010.
Officials say there was heavy fog Monday morning.
