FRANKFORT, KY (November 2, 2007) -- Attorney General Greg Stumbo today announced that agents with the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation (KBI) will visit numerous precincts throughout the state to observe the conduct of the general election on November 6, 2007.

KBI agents will carry out aggressive statewide election monitoring and will provide an immediate response to allegations of voting irregularities in each of Kentucky's six congressional districts. Stumbo's office will work side by side with the Kentucky State Police in the Attorney General's election fraud "war room" to monitor compliance with Kentucky election laws.

"Kentucky citizens can help ensure a clean and fair election, Stumbo said. "My Office will review all allegations of wrongdoing on Election Day."

The Attorney General's office provides a variety of services to ensure free and fair elections. Last year, the Attorney General won a ruling by the Franklin Circuit Court that reinstated more than 8,100 Kentucky voters who were wrongfully purged by Secretary of State Trey Grayson prior to the 2006 Primary & General Elections. This year, the Attorney General conducted an investigation of Kentucky's electronic voting systems and called for improved security upgrades to protect Kentucky voters.

"We will continue to ensure that every eligible, registered voter can exercise their right to vote," says General Stumbo. Kentucky voters should be aware of their rights, including their rights to:

· Question election procedures and receive assistance if necessary

· Vote in private, free from any coercion or intimidation

· Have equal access to the polls regardless of national origin, race, age, or disability

· Request a new ballot if their ballot is spoiled or defaced

· File an "Oath of Voter" if their qualifications to vote are challenged

Between 6a.m. EST and 7p.m. EST, the Attorney General's Election Fraud Hotline will accept reports of suspect activity from across the Commonwealth. The Election Fraud Hotline number is 1-800-328-VOTE (8683).

The Office of the Attorney General will release to the media the total number of election fraud complaints received. Specific details including the location from which the complaint originated will not be released pending the completion of any investigation.
