We have new information about the two teens accused of murdering a Southeastern Kentucky sheriff's deputy.
The two faced a judge for the first time Friday and we caught them on video on their way out of the courthouse.
The 17 year old driver from Delaware and his 16 year old passenger were arraigned Friday on murder charges for the death of Bell County Sheriff Deputy Sean Pursifull. Both boys are still being treated as juveniles in the court system, but we talked with the Bell County attorney who says that could soon change.
As those who knew Bell County Sheriff Deputy Sean Pursifull prepare to say goodbye, the two teenage boys charged with killing him were in court for arraignment. While Kentucky State Police will not confirm, we've learned from several sources close to the investigation that the two had a gun with them when they lead police on a high speed chase that lead to the death of Deputy Pursifull and his canine companion. The Bell County attorney says he wants to charge the two as adults.
"It's definitely what we'd want to see. These men held to a higher standard due their behavior and the seriousness of this crime. We don't think juvenile court is the proper place," said Bell County Attorney Neil Ward.
We've learned the two teenage boys have been in trouble with the law before. In fact, the county attorney says the teen driving the car has a felony conviction in Delaware. Delaware State Police say they were looking for the 17 year old after he ran from police last Sunday.
"We feel real good they will be transferred because this was a horrendous crime and I think it fits the necessary ingredients to transfer it to circuit court," Ward said.
Because the two teens are still being treated as juveniles in court, we are not identifying them until it is decided whether they'll be charged as adults. That could be decided on January 31st when the two will be in court for a transfer hearing. Until then, they're being kept in custody in Adair County.

Deana and the girls our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you at this time of sorrow that you are facing. Look to God and he will keep you strong. We love you Deana.
I say let them be tried as an adult..IF they are big enough to drive a car..from Delaware they are old enough to be tried as an adult. They should have thought what they were doing when they were stealing the gas.. why were they even in Harlan County to begin with..THat should be lookked into also....Thats whats wrong with our society now..these young punks can get out and do what they wanna and t hink they can get by with it..NOw theres about 3 families totally wiped out because of thier little stealing ways..the 2 adult boys who did the crime and the Police officer .WHAT A TRAGEDY..
This is just another example of the failing judicial system that is in place. If the juvenile had been convicted of a felony, then why was he out running around a free man. If the judicial system would step up and enforce the laws they should be, and place a stiff penalty on people things like this might be avoidable. I know in eastern kentucky you get a slap on the wrist everytime, and it's the same violaters in and out of court constantly. We can't blame the cops, but the judges that wants to keep getting votes to be elected. Deputy Pursifull....thank you for your service to law enforcement and all the citizens of Bell county. You are a true hero that paid the ultimate price for fighting crime and evil. May you rest in peace.
