An Eastern Kentucky woman say she'll do all she can to help pass a state law that could increase penalties for those who abuse dogs and cats.
Jena Sizemore is pushing for passage of Romeo's Law. Romeo was beaten in Pulaski County and neighbors caught the abuse on tape. Police arrested Ronald Shawn Turner and he was convicted of a misdemeanor and sentenced to four months in jail.
Romeo's Law would change the offense of torturing dogs and cats to a Class D felony, which would mean up to 5 years in prison for offenders.
"I just said I've got to do something. Ending up being an enormous passion. Got to take a stand," said Jena Sizemore of Leslie County.
Sizemore is asking people to call Frankfort at 1-800-372-7181 and tell Representative Kathy Stein they support House Bill 145, Romeo's Law.
