A homeowner took things into his own hands overnight in southern Kentucky.

The Whitley County Sheriff's Department says an intruder broke into a home on Highway 204 near Canada Town.

Police say the homeowner was inside at the time and shot the intruder.

Investigators say they found a trail of blood leading into the woods but so far have not found the burglar.

Good shooting. Wish California governments has the good sense to understand property rights.

A homeowner "took things into his own hands?" The only thing the homeowner did was to protect himself and his family from the malintent of a dangerous and desperate intruder. What would you have the homeowner do, politely ask the burglar to wait while he dials 911 and awaits the arrival of law enforcement? Apparently, in the eyes of the author, the thought of a peaceable citizen protecting them self from those that would violate the sanctity of a man's home is morally repugnant and less preferable to simply being a victim. That is certainly your right, but just the same, the homeowner and I elect to defend our lives while we can rather than relinquish it so that we may live to see our children's children grow up and flourish. What a shameful bias you have inserted into the story of this individual's misfortunate. Let us hope and pray that you never find yourself in a potential life or death situation at the behest of an intruder who has forcibly entered your home.

Don't they have a few black bears in that part of Kentucky? If so, the bears might be interested in the shot and bleeding criminal, if they cross paths out in the woods.

KUDOS to the homeowner! Thieves need to meet up with more people like this!

Matthew 24:43 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into.

It's all fun and games until you bump into the barrel of a 12 gauge. Can we spread the word on this? Anyone looking for some extra drug money, say hello to our little friend. If I'm on a grand jury, don't even think about trying to indict the homeowner.

Wonderful! Maybe the intruder learned a great lesson. When they try to steal, things like this is going to happen. I hope more of this happens to the thieves! They deserve nothing less.

To protect my family I recently acquired a KY CCDW permit. I felt this was necessary after numerous home invasions have been reported in our area. These criminals realize that most homeowners are very easy marks and will not hesitate to kill or rape their victims. Luckily this homeowner was prepared to protect his home. Good job.

my hat is off to this home owner!

It's about time! Looks like this thug picked the wrong house to invade. Smart homeowner! If we, as law-abiding citizens, would arm ourselves and be prepared for the unthinkable, then perhaps the scum of society might give pause before committing crimes. Let's hear it for the homeowner in this case!!!

GOOD ! What else is there to say ? If this bozo has any sense at all, he learned more about property rights then any court could teach him... and most likely this was his last home invasion...
