SAND SPRINGS, Ky. (AP) - Police raided an Eastern Kentucky animal shelter and found more than 115 dogs starving, disease infected and at least 40 of them dead or dying.

Officers said the dogs found Tuesday suffered all manner of abuse, including starvation, untreated disease and wounds inflicted by other dogs.

Timothy Foust, 32, and Shawn Embs, 18, were each charged with 117 counts each of animal cruelty. A 13-year-old boy who was living inside the home was put into state custody

Jackson County Sheriff Ted Fee said he plans to charge Foust's wife, Aimee Robbins-Foust, on the same counts, but she was at the hospital Tuesday with a sick child, so she will be allowed to surrender to police.

The shelter is known as Animal Assist. It is in a house with outside kennels in Sand Springs, north of McKee.

Authorities say some dogs may have to be euthanized because of their poor condition, while other may be put up for adoption.

Right now the Gray Hawk Animal Clinic is in desperate need of supplies to care for the dogs and they say you can make a donation to the Gray Hawk Animal Clinic, PO Box 387 Mckee, KY 40434.

You can also reach them at 606-287-8475.

My wife and I fostered a saint mix for this shelter and had 10 pups that were alledgedly dropped off as a stray. We were told that the dog was dropped off and it was brought in pregnant. As this story leaked we were appauled! Not only shoould this be prosecuted fully, it should be investigated as fraud. We can not believe that we returned 8 puppies healthy and a healthy female to them. aimiee was seemingly nice and we were told that she and her husband were vets. I have knowledge that she was selling these dogsand that it was for profit. sshe took donations from several people that I have first hand knowledge of as well as my wife and I. I woul love to speak with prosecution and any other law enforcement about this. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!!!!!!!!!!

These people were called on before and it was said that conditions were not this bad,how in Hell could they have gotten this bad if someone had came by periodically it would'nt have been.I hope they lock their asses up and throw away the key and they never get the kids back ever...but we all know they will get a slap on the wrist and probation and maybe a small fine....nothing ever changes for the abused and neglected animals in Eastern kentucky...and thats a (edited) shame..

Why in the world would people say they could take them if they werent capable? I myself have taken a cat there, I would love to know what happen with it. These people should be punished TO THE FULLEST EXTENT! This lady has emailed me several times and seemed like a good person who genuineally cared about the well being of these animals. I had a cat that was taken there just a couple weeks ago, and was told it was fine. What the heck did they want it for? Crazy people with dead dogs in the freezer???? WHY! Very Very Pissed!!!!!! Again these people should be punished miserably... Poor animals!
