Some parents in Eastern Kentucky learned how to keep their children safe Friday.
The Department of Transportation taught families in Perry County how to properly install their own child safety seats. Transportation officials say it is very important for parents to read the manual for the safety seat and the car manual to see how they work together.
The Drive Smart program offers similar events across the state checking for recalls and teaching parents. Tim Short Chrysler in Hazard hosted its first event and employees say they welcome the program back any time.
"We just thought that it was a really good thing for the community, it's a very worthy cause. Child safety is important to everyone and we're just glad to be a part of it," Tim Short said.
