A search is underway after police say a man robbed and roughed up an eastern Kentucky fast food manager.

It happened Monday morning just outside the Long John Silver's restaurant in Harlan.

Investigators say a thief fishing for cash attacked the Harlan Long John Silver's general manager just outside the restaurant's back door.

She was walking to the bank next door to make a routine deposit, when police say a man came at her from behind.

“She says that when he pressed her against the building and pinned her face to the building, that he stuck something against her back. She did not see a weapon, he did not mention a weapon, but he told her 'give me the money and I won't hurt you,” Harlan Police Chief Frank Doan said.

Police aren't saying how much cash she gave him before he ran off.

The manager wasn't allowed to talk on camera but she says she's ok, just a little bruised.

Now police are trying to make their own catch.

“We've searched the river banks, around all the bridges, nothing yet,” Chief Doan said.

Police can't say for sure if the man had a getaway driver somewhere nearby, but they say they do have a lead on a vehicle that could be involved.

When asked if it might be an inside job, they say anyone could find out when employees make deposits.

Harlan police say employees from city businesses can have a police escort to the bank any time.

All they have to do is call.

Police say the man they're looking for is white with dark hair, about 5 foot 10, heavy set or muscular, and was wearing a gray hoodie.

Police aren't releasing information about the vehicle.

If you have any information you should call police.

I think this man has been watching for a long time. He knew exactly when they took the money to the bank. It is very scary to think of someone watching every move you make. I think its weird that a bank being 5 steps away and they decide to rob a fish place is weird to me. I am glad that the manager is safe and I hope this never happens again and they catch this man for doing this. I heard the same thing about Babourville's LJS being robbed too. I wondered the same thing. Could it be the same man?

Rumors are going around that a couple of busnesses in Barbourville were also checked out by a suspicious man...including the LJS. Same man???
