Two coaches say a cross town rivalry has gone a step too far.

Vandals armed with spray paint left their mark on Hazard High School’s football field and this isn't the first the rivalry has gotten out of hand.

It's a long time rivalry Perry County Central and Hazard High School.

Sometime late Friday night someone spray-painted PCC all over the Hazard Bulldogs' Football Field and now coaches from both schools say they are ready for this to end.

The graffiti can be seen from every angle. Hazard High School Football coach Mark Dixon says it was found Saturday morning, months before the two teams will face off on the grid iron again.

“Let the teams settle it on the field, because it's all about the kids getting out there and playing. it's not about what's done outside the game, it's really about what's done on the field. I hope all this stuff stops,” Hazard Coach Mark Dixon said.

Their rival team Perry Central has also seen their fair share of vandalism.. H-H-S #1 can still be found spray painted across Perry Central's field house.

“In a rivalry you always talk about that to your kids. Don't do anything that's going to fire up the other team more than they're going to be,” Perry Central Coach Bert Browne said.

Both coaches say they don't believe the vandals are players of either team.

“We talk to our kids about doing things and I'm sure the Hazard coaches do the same. It's probably kids that don't even play sports really, that have a little too much time on their hands,” Coach Browne said.

Both say a little bit of rivalry is good for the schools by keeping up the energy of a team.

“It can be a good thing for your community. It excites everybody and it's an exciting thing and you need those rivalries,” Coach Browne said.

But both coaches agree vandalism is taking it a step too far.

Now Hazard High School officials say they are letting the police handle this case.

“We've got surveillance cameras up here and we've got some cars going in and out of the place.. we're just going to turn that over to the police and let them take care of it,” Coach Dixon said.

Dixon says any punishment will come from the police.

Coach Dixon says they hope to clean up the graffiti as soon as possible.
