Animal abuse and neglect are problems officials say are getting worse every day. One London woman unexpectedly found herself right in the middle of the issue after her missing dog led her to many more.
Friday afternoon, Tiffany Stiles dog went missing. Stiles immediately began searching for her light brown one year old Basset Hound. Stiles still has not found her dog. Instead she found more than what she bargained for. Stiles found more than 20 dogs starving to death at an apparent abandoned home five miles from her home on White Oak Road in London.
"They grow up to be part of your family. Someone would do this, it makes me wonder how do they take care of themselves how do they take care of their kids. Do they just drop them off and do they not feed them or do they let them run around the house? It's ridiculous," she said.
Angry and disappointed that someone would neglect this many dogs, Stiles started feeding them.
"I have probably 20 calls a day on stray animals that's been dumped out on the side of the road and it's just overwhelming. We can't even answer those calls," said Carl Bolton, Knox County Animal Control Officer.
Bolton says from horses to dogs, animal abuse is on the rise and things will probably only get worse. Bolton says what Stiles found is becoming all too common.
"Stuff like this is senseless. There's no need for it and it seems to be growing," Bolton said.
Stiles says she is still looking for her Basset Hound. She has offered a $100 dollar reward for anyone who finds her dog. In the meantime, she plans to do whatever she help those abused dogs get better.
