FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Tuition for university students in Kentucky will be going up.

The Council on Postsecondary Education approved increases ranging from 6 percent to nearly 10 percent at a meeting on Friday. The state's universities had requested higher tuition rates to cover costs through the next fiscal year.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System also will raise rates by 5.2 percent.

Community and technical college system head Michael McCall had requested a 13 percent hike. McCall said the smaller tuition hike will likely lead to cuts in services and student enrollment.

What we need is a research university to answer some our crisis problems. They would make new ideas which translate into new jobs--all our own---but.... They would pay their own way--but...

if our spineless elected legislators did their job to support education in Kentucky then this problem would not exist and students and instutions would not have to bear the brunt of such a financial disaster. Let's vote the whole buch out ASAP.
