FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky Lt. Gov. Dan Mongiardo endorsed
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama on Sunday, less than
two weeks before Obama faces rival Hillary Clinton in the state
Democratic presidential primary on May 20.
Mongiardo said Obama can unite the Democratic Party and build a
coalition with independents and Republicans before the general
election in November. Mongiardo, a surgeon, also praised Obama's
health care plan, which would cut the medical cost for all
families.
Gov. Steve Beshear, a superdelegate, has yet to announce which
candidate he will back at the Democratic National Convention his
summer.

Greg in Hyden, Obama supports coal. I heard him speaking about it in another state that has coal. To all, Obama wants to help the poor and middle class. If people would read his books and keep an open mind, then they would learn that he has always cared about other people, ever since he was a small child. His mother taught him to live by the Golden Rule. He's really a nice, ethical, and very intelligent man. Does anyone really think that all the previous Democrat presidential candidates would endorse him if he were a bad person? Please don't believe and pass along false e-mail rumors. Obama DOES say (and sometimes leads) the pledge of allegiance to the flag in the Senate. Sometimes he wears a flag lapel pin (but the other candidates didn't wear one every day, did they?) He was sworn into office on his own family Bible. He is NOT and has NEVER been a Muslim. His "bitter" comment was a bad choice of words, but nice people could try to see the truth in it and stop calling it a slur.

I drove frantically from ashland to vote in the goveners race to cast my vote for Brashear because Mongiardo was the running mate. I wish I could revoke my vote for him. We the people spoke up for him and now he is speaking against us. I will not vote for their ticket or any ticket Mongiardo is on again unless he changes his support. I will also influence anyone I can to vote against him. I had alot of respect for him as a physician and a person. Now that is gone.

i guess when obama made the comment about small town america and their religion and guns it didn't affect dr. dan at all. he may not feel like a small town boy anymore, he is hanging out in Frankfort, deep inside the golden triangle of Kentucky. go Hillary! if she doesn't make it, go McCain!

I thought the people of ky have a right to deceide as do others who to vote for , but don't try to tell people how they should vote, just because you disagree with them. but also don't try to be someone you are not just to get votes obama and mongiardo both are slick talkers and pretty faced boys who could never understand what kentucky means to us, they are only out for themselves and the HHHHHHHHHHHH with what is best for the rest

To quote Forrest Gump: "Oh.... Lt. Dan!" Haha, really, this is a total embarrassment to his buddy Steve "Deer in the headlights" Beshear. But it is nothing new, Tweedledee and Tweedledum in Frankfort are messing things up too, so why should they not support someone else who would make a total clusterflop of things if elected? Birds of a feather flock together.

why in gods name would "anyone" in the state of kentucky endorse an idiot who refuses to salute the flag. if you people, "mongiardo",think this man is the best one suited for this job think again. he is nothing but a communist. i personally dont believe in voting a woman in for president, but better a woman than a communist!!

if somebody doesn't bring obama to ky. he will never find us, he never knew where ky. even was untill he needed our vote. glad to see this story, there is two i won't ever vote for.he will be for change alright, change us from poor to destitute.

Stumbo is also positioning himself to not make any small town folks mad so he can secure himself in the representative spot come next election. Stumbo couldn't want any change. How could you want to solve the problem when you yourself are a part of the problem. Lets do away with the old school politics and the good ole boy mentality and do what is right by the people and for the people. Obama '08

Why would a newly elected Lt. Govenor for the state of Kentucky and the election only a little over a week left do this to the voters of Kentucky? Our voice does not count anymore here in Kentucky, only for the local elections. I remember many local elections Daniel has run in and I for one thought he would be fair and be for the people of Kentucky and at least listen to us. Sorry Lt. Gov Mongiardo, but I see who you are. No more votes from my family here in Harlan. You evidently haven't heard, but Clinton's health care plan is much better. How can you endorse before the election? Just because you are a physician, you had to have some excuse for your endorsement, so you chose to use health care. Shame on you! You and Ben Chandler decide what you want to do in four years, but this democrat and 23 of my family members will never forget you all in four years. Your word is about as good as our gas prices. It changes everyday.

my 20 plus family votes will never vote for mongiardo again

and your point is???????...who cares who Mongiardo endorses..

Former Attorney General, Majority Floor Leader, and current State Representative Greg Stumbo said, “I found Senator Barack Obama's comments incredibly unfortunate. After representing eastern Kentucky for 25 years, I can tell you what we don't need are stereotypes that discount our faith. and our values.(end quote) I agree with Stumbo. Mongiardo is out of touch with East Kentucky. In fact he never was in touch with the people of Ky. He is just getting himself in position for another job, that is all he is interested in not East Kentucky. He has been running for another job from the first time he went to Frankford and has never done the job he is elected to

I am glad somebody has some sense in Eastern KY. This country needs change for everyone. Obama is the only one that can bring that change now. Obama '08

Posted by: Renee Location: Cumberland on May 12, 2008 at 10:16 AM
Obama cares nothing about the people in KY. So how can Mongiardo even think out supporting him. The hard wroking people of KY doesn't matter to Obama our oppinions and our beliefs are a joke in his eyes.

Posted by: Irritated Location: KY on May 12, 2008 at 09:50 AM
I knew before I even read these comments how negative they would be. Personally, I approve of Mongiardo even more now because he didn't go with all of the ignorance floating around out there. People and their backward beliefs just amaze me.

Posted by: voter Location: kentucky on May 12, 2008 at 09:25 AM
Mongiardo has lost my support! I will not vote for him in any more elections! I feel he has sold out his home town and this whole state. The polls indicate Obama is very unpopular in KY. After Beshear/Mongiardo lose the reelection for governor in a few years.Daniel has turned his back on Southeast, KY! These comments are coming from a very loyal FORMER Daniel Mongiardo supporter!!!

Dan will never get my vote again. He wants to be Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, not with my vote.

Posted by: Greg Location: Hyden, Ky. on May 12, 2008 at 08:34 AM
It's good to know that Mongiardo agrees with Obama's health plan. But what does Mongiardo think Obama will do for coal. I would like to know what he thinks before I vote. People I work with want to know that he will be for the coal industry.

Posted by: charlie Location: floyd county on May 12, 2008 at 08:05 AM
This makes me wish I had never voted for DR Dan
