Portions of Kentucky Highway 15 in Perry County are now open after an accident early Thursday morning.

The southbound lane of Kentucky Highway 15 North in Perry County near the top of the hill near the Triple A was closed Thursday morning due to an accident. State police tell us one person died in the crash.

In addition to the fatality, Kentucky State Police tell WYMT that one other person was injured in the accident.

Here is the report, straight from Kentucky State Police:
On 05/15/08 at approximately 06:11 a.m. Kentucky State Police in Hazard received a 911 call of a single vehicle accident on Ky. 15 in the Bonnyman Community of Perry County.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the operator Aaron Mullins, age 19, of Booneville was traveling South on Highway 15 in a F-350 Ford truck when he apparently feel asleep, ran off the roadway, and struck a rock embankment. The operator was transported to the Hazard ARH for treatment and the passenger 36-year-old Brian Hughs of Jackson was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Perry County Coroners Office. No seat belts were in use at the time of the accident.

This is all to normal on this blog. People coming up with all kinds of CRAP thea has nothing to do with the story. Law enforcment patrols would not have stopped this. Pay attenion guys or keep your wise cracks to your self. My prayers go out to the familys of this tragic loss of life.

I drive that road every day to and from work. It's not the coal trucks that are the problem. It's the people who are driving way too fast, weaving in and out of oncoming traffic and basically ingoring even the most basic driving rules! Personally, I am surprised there are not more accidents.

what does the DOT, State Police or overloaded coal trucks have to do with someone falling asleep behind the wheel? did all you guys read something here that I did'nt?

Never seen a vehicle enforcement officer (DOT) in Chavies, wonder why don't you? and it's rambant with overweight trucks.

The state police and dot both need to patroal 15 and hal rogers more.I drive Hal Rogers everyday,and from 5 am till I get to Hazard the drive way to fast.

I knew there would be someone to place blame on a coal truck, Never fails. I wish our truckers would get (edted) off and find a new job for a while and let all the ungrateful people live with no electric food everything!

Anymore the stretch of road running from jackson to hazard is dangerous coming and going...i think someone should look into it because here lately there has been quite a few accidents.. and a gentlmen i know is still in the hospital in lexington

Where is vehicle enforcement on that road? they appear very absent considering all the overweight coal trucks that come out of Buckhorn and Greatvine---why is that?????
