Candidates for the 84th District State Representatives seat say they're all running a clean campaign.

Some mysterious flyers circulating in Perry County are making things a little muddy.

Benny Ray Bailey isn't happy about this torn down campaign poster but he says he's more upset about Flyers like this one.

The flyers started showing up on car windshields in Perry County.

The flyers highlight charges against Bailey from 2001 including aggravated assault, spouse abuse, and violating a Kentucky emergency protective order.

Court records show all charges were later dismissed.

“I'm sure it's somebody that either is for one of my opponents, or somebody that just has a grudge against me,” Benny Ray Bailey said.

“It's the first time in 30-some years of politics I've seen anything put out like this. It's disgraceful and slanderous,” Candidate Chester Jones said.

Chester Jones says it's slanderous to his name because the flyer says it's "paid for by the Chester Jones Campaign Fund."

Jones says that's a lie, and he's offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to who's responsible.

“It's an unfortunate event that should not have happened. This race has been about the issues, and it needs to remain about the issues,” Candidate Troy Gaw said.

Troy Gaw says his campaign had nothing to with it, and he hopes it has no impact on the election.

Fitz Steele was on the campaign trail and told us on the phone his campaign also had no involvement.

Steele says the dismissed charges are Bailey's personal business, and he's tired of negative politics.

“For myself and our camp, we're not going to pursue this. We're going to continue talking to the good people of Perry and Harlan Counties, running our race,” Bailey said.

Jones says if he finds out who distributed these, he plans to sue for slander.

Benny Ray Bailey told us he hadn't seen the flyer himself, and said he couldn't comment on its content.

The information about Benny Jr. and his charges of assault and DUI has been all over Hazard and Harlan for weeks now. There is also talk that he tried to have these things expunged. My point is, everyone has something in their past that they aren’t proud of. I think that most people are going to over look this and vote for Ben Jr. because he comes from an old political family that knows how to play the game with the Frankfort Big Boys.
