Police: Wet Roads Lead To Fatal Accident Save Email Print

A Perry County man has died after crashing his vehicle into a tree Thursday afternoon.

According to Kentucky State Police, 20 year old Nicholas D. Cory of Dwarf hydroplaned on a wet road, lost control of his vehicle, and struck a tree along Highway 476. Cory was transported to Hazard ARH where he later died from his injuries. KSP tells WYMT that no seat belts were in use at the time of the collision.

The accident remains under investigation.

I didn't know Nick personally, but I knew several members of his family. They are all very good people who are also very close. My heart goes out to all of them. Although this is a devastating tragedy, remember that Nick is in a better place. RIP Nick.

what can i say bout nick i graduated grade and high school with him he was one of a kind one of the nicest person u could ever meet one of the best cross country , and high school wrestler ive ever seen and imma miss him my prayers go out Major Cory and his Family

(I was in ROTC with Nick)he was always full of life, happy, and loved by his friends..my heart goes out to everyone that knew him..bc he will be missed..a spark of joy can go a long way..and Nick had that spark..my heart goes out to his family too

It is the belief of the family that the nature of the crash, if the seatbelt had held it would have smashed his upperbody. It would have destroyed the organs that were donated. It is probable that the seatbelt was disengaged in the crash. Thank you for everyone's concerns and prayers.

Just an encouragement to anyone seeing what you think might be an accident or someone in trouble, If you feel you can't stop or turn back, or get involved, at least call for help even if you are not sure. you never know your call may save a life. Do what you would hope someone would do for you or your family is they saw something wrong.

Has it occurred to you, or the police, that Nick may have removed his seat belt after the accident while trying to extricate himself from the vehicle? He used seatbelts conscientiously. It's unfair of the police and the media to conclude that seat belts were not in use. Injured though he was, his first impulse would have been to get out of that car! I very strongly suspect that's when he removed his belt.

I urge everyone to slow down when it rains. You will never believe how slick the road is until you lose traction. I have had to accidents and both times it was raining

I went to high school with Nick, and hearing that he's gone at such a young age is the most shocking and furthermore,tragic thing that I've heard in a long time. My deepest condolences go out to the Cory family.

i have known nick for 12 years, i loved him as one of my own he will truly be missed, Major Cory and his wife Cindy are truly get people and we all feel their pain, being part of the jrotc program at perry central has made us all close and we consider ever involved with the program family, so we have indeed lost a part of our family. May Nick rest in peace and God bless his family

I live across the creek from where this accident took place and my deepest sympathy goes out to the family of this young man.I have lived her nearly 7 years and have seen many accidents,some drivers have even gone in the creek.There needs to be a guardrail all along this road because it is narrow and curvy.This is a tragedy for his family and they will be in my prayers.
