A new report shows how many homeless people there are in each county across Kentucky and there are hundreds across eastern Kentucky.

Several shelters offer help, but that's not the case right now in one south eastern Kentucky county.

The Kentucky Housing Corporation found about 30 people homeless in Bell County.

Right now, the Bell County Homeless Shelter is closed.

WYMT's Jeff Allen talked to one man who was getting help there.

During the day, John Ritterholz wipes and waxes.

But at night, John fixes up a Ford Bronco.

John says he had a home at the Bell County Homeless Shelter for about 2 months, but most shelters can only allow people to stay for short while.

John found a job at a Pineville custom car shop.

“Eat, sleep, and work at the same garage,” Ritterholz said.

With gas prices so high, the shop's owner says he can't seem to sell the Bronco so he let's John pull it into the shop at night.

“I'm pretty comfortable really,” Ritterholz said.

John says the Bell County Homeless Shelter was a great place to stay.

“I could wash my clothes, but now I have to buy new ones,” Ritterholz said.

The shelter is not open for anyone now.

It had to shut down because a lack of funds.

Shelter officials have tried to get help from churches and different agencies.

For John Ritterholz, even his temporary home isn't going to last forever.

He's making the most of what he has and relying on faith to get through.

i dont see why pepl dont let the homeless live with them so they would not suffer and die and they would at least be in good hands and under a roof

I just read that Kentucky had the greatest increase (70 per cent) in their homeless population. I could see a warm weather state such as California. But, Kentucky Why such a huge increase?
