More than forty volunteers are in Harlan County on a mission to help several families and spread their faith.
Several volunteers from Tennessee & Ohio are repairing roofs, decks, and floors in Harlan County this week and making a difference in 6 families lives.
“It's the kind of thing that changes your life and changes your heart,” Owen Griffith said.
The 42 volunteers are on a mission with SWAP or Sharing With Appalachian People, to rebuild homes and rebuild spirits of low in-come families.
“I just do it because I really like it out here and I really like the work we do and the mission they have,” Griffith said.
The volunteers say it's the families the make the experience worthwhile.
“They're an amazing family and I just think they deserve every second of what we're doing,” Lange said.
Volunteers say no matter where you're from people are struggling.
“It's an opportunity to help someone, of course your heart goes out to them,” Don Spain said.
These families have reached out for help, and workers say this is their opportunity to reach back and let them know they're there.
Volunteers have been here for a week and some say it won't be their last visit.
Sharing With Appalachian People typically provides week long mission trips for church groups and students that want to help low income families in Kentucky and West Virginia.
