It’s a major break for police in one Eastern Kentucky county in the war on drugs and police say they were able to do it with just a few arrests.

The Harlan County Sheriff says his department is constantly fighting drugs.

In the war on drugs, investigators with the Harlan County Sheriff's Department found Wednesday a good time to strike.

"They realized yesterday was a prime opportunity. They seized that opportunity and you can see it paid off for us," said Harlan County Sheriff Marvin Lipfird.

In two separate busts, they seized numerous prescription pills and nearly $19,000 in cash.

"Nothing average about it. This is a very large hit," Lipfird said.

But with comes a stark reminder about who's many times central to the drug problem, people from out of town.

"They come in quickly, drop off to the contacts they have here, then leave the area," Lipfird said.

Police made two separate busts Wednesday. In one of them, they found Chris Bullman and Dino Rocco Mannarino both from Michigan. Both men now face drug charges. The Harlan County sheriff says local doctors are more reluctant to prescribe pills to just anyone, but that may not be the case out of state. He says local dealers are working with people from out of town.

"They've made contact with someone from here, conspired, and decided to start bringing drugs to Harlan County," Lipfird said.

Sheriff Lipfird says they are still going after local drug dealers but he says if they are not going to let them by, they are definitely not going to allow dealers from out of town come in and make the problem even worse.
