As we reported Friday, several mines in the mountains were warned by federal mine officials to fix violations at their facilities or face stiffer penalties. We now know which mines in Eastern Kentucky were issued letters.

The Appalachian News Express reports mining operations in Pike, Martin, Floyd and Harlan Counties were all cited as having potential patterns of violations of health or safety standards. In addition to the Big Sandy region mines that were on the list, several Harlan County facilities were named including Stillhouse Mine Number One, where two miners were killed back in 2005.

Other mines that received letters in the most recent round included:

* Massey Energy Company's Rockhouse Energy Mine No. 1

* Massey Energy's Sidney Coal Co. Taylor Fork Energy

* Alliance Resource Partners' Excel Mining LLC Mine No. 2 in Martin County

* NFC Mining Inc.'s No. 1 plant in Floyd County

* James River Coal Company's Blue Diamond Mine No. 75.

* D & C Mining Corporation's mine in Harlan County

* Conshor Mining Company's Mine No. 1 in Harlan County.

Umm andy hunny the only thing the government is trying to do is make the mines a more safer place for our men to work. If they are doing something wrong then they need to face the penalties, and make it a safer environment.
