At 2:34PM on June 25, 2008, Somerset police officers were notified of a prisoner who walked away from a work release detail at the Pulaski County Animal Shelter.

Gary Burgess Rollins, 48, of Parkers Lake in McCreary County, was serving an eight year sentence in the Pulaski County Detention Center for Trafficking in a Controlled Substance and Bail Jumping. He was convicted in McCreary Circuit Court earlier this year, and was being held as a state prisoner.

Rollins was assigned to a work release detail at the Pulaski County Animal Shelter when he was observed leaving the premises in a white passenger car. Animal Shelter personnel immediately notified law enforcement and units began their search for Rollins.

Rollins is described as a white male, 5'8" tall and weighs 170 pounds. At the time of the escape, he had long brown hair and a beard. Rollins has numerous tattoos on his arms and neck.

Burgess should be considered dangerous. Anyone having information on the whereabouts of Gary Rollins is asked to call 911 or their local law enforcement agency.

uh havent you ppl heard of a second chance? maybe thats why they let him on it again. well you shouldnt have everyone of them on chains and such, whenever they are trying to work and help improve the community..how would you like doin certain things with a chain on? it would make it a lot harder..and more painful..so dont say they are a menace to society..when you know nothing!!!!!

Why in the world would they let him work at the shelter for that matter..I bet the animals were scared to death because he sure doesn't look friendly..and they say he must be considered dangerous...The workers at the Shelter and the animals are better off that he's not there...

I DO BLAME THE JAIL OR SYSTEM FOR THIS. WHY WAS HE UNSUPERVISED???? WHOEVER WAS IN GUARD SHOULD BE LOCKED UP.... HE OUGHT TO BE FREE FOR OUT SMARTING THEM...

SHOULD HAVE HAD A BALL AND CHAIN ON. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THEY LET THESE PEOPLE OUT ON WORK DETAIL WITHOUT A BALL AND CHAIN ON THEIR LEG TO PREVENT THEM FROM RUNNING. TO ME THIS TYPE OF PEOPLE GAVE UP THEIR RIGHTS TO BEING TREATED AS NORMAL PEOPLE. THEY ARE A MENACE TO SOCIETY.
